ODIS
ODIS displays a wealth of information about the current status of the CICS system and also displays VSE, VTAM and VSE DL/I status information. Both detail and summary displays are provided, as well as analytic displays used for problem determination. ODIS also has an optional feature called "ODISTRAK" through which ODIS records major CICS statistics and periodically writes them to a VSAM file. Batch programs analyze and report on the recorded data, and also permit archiving of it to tape.

One of the ODIS screens displays "problems" which exist or have occurred in the running CICS system, including such conditions as storage violations, short-on-storage, tasks waiting for VSAM strings or buffers, etc. This function may be run unattended, reporting exceptional conditions as they occur to the system console, or a terminal.
ODIS also provides a hexadecimal and character format memory display facility by address or by name of storage area. In addition to the tables and control blocks listed above, more than 20 areas may be requested by name, e.g.: CICS Common Work Area (CWA), VSE Logical Transient Area (LTA), MVS Link Pad Directory Area (LPAD), etc.
Memory may also be altered using ODIS. This function may be restricted.
ODIS includes screens and fields oriented to determining operational or performance problems in the CICS system, and comes with a 100+ page manual containing usage information, description of the tables and fields accessed, and contains valuable information and advice on CICS and operating system operation in general, as well as ways to use ODIS to improve and control the systems. With most users very dependent on the availability of CICS, problems can cause a significant drop in company productivity. ODIS identifies problems before they become irresolvable. ODIS also provides assistance in managing a CICS system so it performs as well as possible, and with a minimum of bottlenecks. Some sections of the manual can be used in conjunction with the software to observe system variables and operation characteristics, change them, and review the results. In general, the ODIS manual and software are designed to provide an informal but practical education in the complex CICS area, both for experienced and relatively inexperienced personnel.
ODIS also provides a detailed display of individual terminals and another more condensed terminal display, which shows only in/out of service status.
"ODISTRAK" is an optional feature that permits ODIS to record major CICS statistics for processing later in batch mode. Data is recorded and reported for the following:

• System (various events such as program checks, memory usage, max task reached, etc.)

• Watchdog (ODIS periodic problem detection)
The recorded data may also be archived to tape for historical reporting purposes.
